Sony delays PS3 launch for half the world

Looking forward to Sony’s next-generation games console, the PS3?

If you live in Australia, Europe, Russia, Africa and other PAL TV standard territories, you’ll be waiting a little longer than you expected, with the PS3 for these territories being delayed until March 2007!

The launch for Japan and the US will proceed as planned, with a November 10 launch for Japan and a November 17 launch for the US. Reports online suggest enough quantities of some parts were unable to be procured in time to co-ordinate a global release, so shipments are being delayed so there are hopefully enough units for Japan and the US (both of whom use the NTSC TV standard). However, the PS3 is likely to be in short supply, due to its expected popularity, just as the Xbox 360 went through supply issues of its own in November and December of last year.
