Ricoh’s gel printing challenges inkjets and laser

A new printing technology has taken on colour inkjets and laser printers in Japan over the past 18 months, with over 200,000 units sold. Called a GelSprinter, it is available in the UK and has launched in Australia today, and is an interesting alternative with cool features all its own.

Mac attacks rare, but real

There’s no question that, today, Macs are much more secure than Windows based PCs. This is thanks to a more secure operating system, but it has also been because of a smaller user base that presented a smaller target for malware and virus writers. However the smaller user base argument is not necessarily the case today, thanks to the rise and rise of the iPod and the iMac.

Virus scare a lesson for Apple

While the small batch of Apple iPods infected with a Windows virus pose no threats to iMacs or the iPods themselves, the fact they were infected at all is a big worry. Now, the potential for virus and malware writers to start targeting Mac OS X in a bigger way cannot be ignored, and should be a massive wake-up call to Apple and its users: owning a Mac does not mean you’re invulnerable.

How soon before it’s taken off the Internet forever?

It’s quite likely to be illegal, so chances a new virtual gaming system, featuring 1980s Nintendo games, will be taken off the Internet quite soon. New Gadgets and more…

It’s been a busy time here at Free Access Central, with all kinds of things happening in the consumer electronics industry. A new Bluetooth headset from Gear4, makers of popular iPod acecssories and speaker systems, connects to your iPod by wire and gives you a wired remote control. When a call comes through, the caller ID info is displayed on the iPod’s screen, with the voice coming through the headphones and a microphone likely on the remote control cable. We’ll be getting one to play with in a few days and we’re keen to try it out and give you a report on how useful and effective it is.
