New search engine from Microsoft is quite cool!
Dec 10th, 2006 | By Staff Writers | Category: Internet, Internet applications, New products, Technology news, Web sites, podcasts and videosWant to see what the search engine of the future might look like? Microsoft has it up and running now. And while the results are from Microsoft, and not Google, which might make you want to not use it, at the very least, this is a search engine you need to see!
Called ‘Ms. Dewey’, the search engine features the talented young Miss Janina Gavankar who, in an Adobe Flash environment, is trying to entice you to enter queries, and be entertaining at the same time. She plays the role of the sweet librarian, and shows a range of facial expressions, from pouting in a seductive style, to smiling, to frustration, to showing boredom and tapping the computer screen to get your attention if you haven’t entered in any queries after a while.
It presently offers no real benefits over just using Google, but it’s certainly novel and fun. How long the magic will last is another issue, and some of the actions she performs, like trying to lassoo you in or catch you with a fishing line seem to get a bit repetitive.
Entering in ‘naughty’ words, which is much like looking for their meanings in a dictionary when you were a kid, also produces some interesting comments from the lovely Ms Dewey.
It’s a great attempt at trying to be different, and points the way to much more interactive websites in the future. Definitely worth a look and a play around with!
