Trojan attacks Google Adsense

Google has been hit by a trojan before, in 2005. That trojan targeted Google ads and inserted obscene ads in place of regular ads. This new trojan targets Google’s Adsense text ads.
The trojan has been dubbed Trojan.Ghost.Mu by the folks at BitDefender. BitDefender classifies this trojan as a medium threat, medium damage trojan. The trojan works by redirecting clicks to malicious web sites that phish for your data or convince your to click the fake ads.
According to representatives of BitDefender: “Users are affected because the advertisements and/or the linked sites may contain malicious code,” he said. “Webmasters are affected because the trojan takes away viewers and thus a possible money source from their Websites.”
The trojan sites are served by what Google considers a rogue server. Google vows to remove the accounts of any site being served by the rogue server. It is part of their standard company policy in combating bad practices on their sites:
“We actively work to detect and remove sites that serve malware in both our ad network and in our search results. We have manual and automated processes in place to detect and enforce these policies.”
If you suspect your ads have been hijacked, contact Google directly to report the abuse. You can find official help on their Adsense support page, located here.
