Intuit’s Quicken products still eating your data

A few days ago, the Internet was abuzz with the news that trusted financial software made by Intuit had a big that was causing it to delete user data. Intuit released a patch to fix the problem, and for a while, all was right in the world of finance.
This week we find out that the problem still exists, and a major problem it is. In many parts of the world, especially the US, it is tax time, and Intuit is a mainstay of people everywhere who file their own taxes. That your data could be lost while doing your supposed civic duty is impossible to comprehend for most.
Sure, tech savvy types are now touting the important of backing up your data, and many of us do backup regularly. But there is quite a large segment of the population who does not back up - they don’t even know how to do a full back up, and this loss would be catastrophic for them.
At the moment, the recurrence of the bug suggests that Intuit may lose some market share this financial season, especially in the States where the bulk of it’s tax related product is used. Having the bug occur once was bad enough for public relations and Intuit’s trust level, but having it reoccur again so soon after being “fixed” is a blow to the software giant that could drive consumers to other alternatives.
