Despite the efforts by many organizations that have been educating businesses and people about the dangers of global emissions and despite the valiant efforts of those businesses who have sought to reduce its reduction according to a recent report put out by the Global Carbon Project, global emissions is on the rise.
I found the news slightly disturbing especially since many organizations have increased their efforts to address climate changes and reduce emissions. Dr. Pep Canadall, Executive Director and carbon specialist for the Global Carbon Project said, “This is a concerning trend in light of global efforts to curb emissions.” He also went on to mention that one of the reasons for this increase in global emissions had to do with the growth of “two emerging powerhouse” China and India. He also stated that for the first time the carbon emissions are coming from the lesser developed countries. Currently China is the top emitter. Some have speculated that if this trend continues it can lead to a greater warming of the planet.
The Global Carbon Project was created in 2001 it’s goal main goal is to completely understand the carbon cycle. GCP measure global carbon emissions and their causes. I’m sure in the months ahead we’ll be hearing more discussions on ways that this issue can be addressed. For those wanting to check out the full report you can log onto the Global Carbon Project website and download the Global Carbon Project report. It’s a pdf file. Currently the website is inaccessible.
