Google Translate gets updated; Offering 11 additional languages

Oct 1st, 2008 | By Opal Tribble | Category: Announcements, Lead article

Google recently updated Google Translate. Users now have 11 additional languages to choose from.  Google’s machine translation service now supports 35 languages.

The eleven languages that have been added are; Catalan, Filipino, Hebrew, Indonesian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. I use Google Translate when I’m on the internet. Occasionally I have searched for article that were written in another language. Google Translate has assisted me in getting the gist of what the article is about.

Google Translate is meant for personal use. It’s not something you would use to send out a professional document because the translation doesn’t always flow naturally. You would want to hire a profession service for that. However if all you need is a basic understanding of the document it’s the perfect web application to use provided that one of the languages needed is supported.

How do I use Google Translate?

  1. Log onto Google Translate
  2. Choose what you would like to translate (text or web page.)
  3. Choose what language you want to translate from
  4. From the drop down menu choose what language you want to translate to
  5. Click on translate
  6. Congratulations the document or has been translated
