Is Nokia attempting to take a bbite out of Apple’s piece of the smartphone market. It would appear that way. Nokia recently announced that it will be releasing the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and get this just like the iPhone it has a touch screen which is a first for Nokia.
The price of the phone will vary however without any subsidies expect to pay around $400. So what does the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offer? According to Reuters, it has 8GB of storage space. It also features a lot of the same functionality that iPhone users are enjoying most notably the touch screen device, additionally, users are able to surf the net, and Nokia users also have unlimited music downloads which is part of Nokia’s “Comes with Music Program.” Users have the option of downloading music from Warner Music Group, Sony BMG Music, Universal Music, and EMI Group?
The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music comes equipped with maps, satellite navigation, 3G, and Wi-Fi. Its screen is much larger than iPhones 480×320 screen. The Nokia 5800 screen is 640×360. It also has removable storage, and it features a 3.2 megapixel camera complete with video recording function and flash. It’s customizable and allows the users to place four of the contacts right onto the home screen for easy access to the history, phone logs, SMS messages, along with blog updates, and photos.
Another feature is HTML web browser Flash Lite 3. What I like about Flash Lite 3 is that it lets users search the entire net, not just pieces of if. I currently use an LG phone, and one of the annoyances I’ve encountered when I’m on the road is that I’m unable to access some of the websites because of the phone.
If you don’t live in Asia, you won’t see the phone this year. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be released in other countries next year. At this time, there is no mention of the areas where the “Comes With Music’ service will be available for this phone.
