YouTube the world’s most popular video site is finally giving its audience what it wants. Coming soon to the YouTube website viewers will be able to watch full-length TV shows.
The US based New York Times reported that YouTube has only signed a partnership with CBS to broadcast US based shows like “Dexter”, “Star Trek”, and “Beverly Hills”. YouTube users can expect to see advertising before, during, and after the show airs.
A lot of YouTube users weren’t surprised by this announcement. Over the past year full-length TV content along with documentaries and premieres from US based entertainment companies like Showtime and HBO have appeared on YouTube. Other companies like Hulu.com and NBC.com have already been offering this service.
YouTube, a video sharing website, was create launched in 1995 by three former Paypal employees; Steve Chen, Jawed Karim, and Chad Hurley less than a year later it was bought out by Google on November 13, 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars.
Will YouTube extend the viewing time for regular users who want to upload longer videos? We’ll have to wait and see; at the moment the maximum time to watch a video on YouTube is ten minutes. Perfect for those short clips but at times you’ll find clips that are longer and those are broken up into multiple videos.
