Google-G1.jpgThe popularity of the Apple iPhone has many companies taking note of this extremely popular mobile phone and creating their own mobile devices to compete. Google announced that they would be releasing their own mobile device called the G1. The G1 hasn’t been released yet, it hasn’t stopped people from pre-ordering phones from the number one search engine in the US.

According to the Pulse2.com website, The G1 is already sold out in the USA and it hasn’t been released yet. The G1 is created by Taiwanese manufacturer HTC and is available for those on the T-Mobile network. The G1 uses the Android operating system (a system designed by Google) and like the Apple iPhone is the perfect choice for those looking to bring desktop computing to a mobile device. G1 users will have one touch access to their Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Earth, and many more.

Similar to the iPhone G1 features a touchscreen and it comes equipped with a slide out Qwerty keyboard. Internet browsing is done via 3G and Wi-Fi. Similar to the Apple App store G1 users will be able to purchase additional software, programs, games on the phone at the Android Market application store.

The G1 plans to be available at a variety of shops in the US on October 22, 2008. The UK will receive them in November which arrives in time to capitalize on the Christmas shopping season. Pre-orders aren’t available in the UK at this time; however, customers are allowed to register their interest in the product at UK’s T-Mobile website, over 25,000 people have done this already.

Will the Google’s G1 be enough to topple Apple’s iPhone? In the first weekend, it was released the Apple over one million people purchased the Apple iPhone. Overall impressions of the G1 have been extremely positive and if the pre-order sales are any indication. The iPhone might have a contender.
