Mac users looking for a refresh of the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air finally received their wish recently. Apple has finally updated the lineup. Slightly faster processors, improved graphics, and new design was a few of the things Apple had in store for Mac users.
The rumors were true about the MacBook it now sports the same aluminum design as seen in the MacBook Pro. The casing is made from a single block of aluminum which results in a thinner design. The Macbook features an instant-on LED backlight display, the multi-trackpad has finally made its way into the MacBook lineup featuring a new large glass Multi-Touch trackpad which allows almost 40 percent more tracking area and features support for Mult-Touch gestures. Apple was going for a green friendly computer with the updated MacBook family. The new MacBooks have met the stringent Energy Star 4.0, EPEAT Gold, and RoHs environmental standards. In addition, Apple is only using PVC-free internal cables and components and its using energy efficient backlit LED- displays which is mercury free and are created with arsenic-free glass.
The MacBook Pro, and the MacBook, both received an upgrade in the graphics department it now includes an integrated Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip with 256 MB DDR memory. Apple claims that the GeForce 9400M is up to five times faster than the Intel integrated graphics which were found on the previous MacBooks and Mac mini models. Additionally, the MacBook Air and the 15″ MacBook Pro received a mini display port which allows users can connect with the new Apple LED Cinema display which boasts a 24-inc LED-backlit wide-screen display.
Overall the changes in the Mac lineup received positive reviews from analyst however I was disappointed that the 17″ MacBook Pro didn’t receive an update. I’m a Mac and a Windows users I was hoping to update my 17″ MacBook Pro to an newer model however Apple Insider stated that there was some type of delay affecting the 17″ model being released. Apple Insider also stated that they updated 17″ MacBook Pro resembled “a slightly larger version of the new 15-inch MacBook Pro.” How long do we have to wait for the 17″ MacBook Pro? According to Apple Insider we should see them early next year. Although I’m disappointed with the news, I’ve been wanting to update my 17″ MacBook Pro for almost a year, I can wait a few more months.
The separate event for the Macs had a few speculating if this a sign of things to come for Apple focusing on one product for each event? At the WWDC ‘08 event Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, and, the rest of the Apple staff focused solely on the iPhone and the variety of applications that can be used with it. The Let’s Rock event in September focused solely on the iPod and this past Tuesday and event was held to unveil the new MacBook and MacBook Pro. If so, I’m all for it since it gives the more time to focus on each product without rushing onto the other product.
