Mildura will be the first to transition to full-time digital television

Digital-tv.jpgThe Australian government is planning to eliminate analog television and switch the nation to digital. Famous for its citrus cultivation and wineries Mildura is first on the list.

According to The Age Senator Conroy said that Mildura was the logical place to start since it already has the greatest conversion to digital. Currently there is over 70% coverage in the area. The rest of Victoria will be making the switch during the first half of 2011.

What this means is users who own analog televisions will need to purchase a box to convert the signal to digital or they’ll need to upgrade their televisions. The switch to digital conversion is going on in other countries also. In the United States all full-power broadcast television stations will come to an end on February 17, 2009. Broadcasting through the traditional analog airwaves and will only broadcast in digital
