Australian gamers spend 16% less at retail in 2010
Australian gamers spent significantly less on their hobby in 2010 than they did in 2009. At least at retail. The reported 16 percent drop in sales doesn’t include purchases made in online stores or via digital download. And as these two elements are becoming increasingly popular this seems an important distinction to make.

Bureau of Meteorology upgrading flood forecasting tech
The floods that have devastated Queensland in the last few weeks arrived so unexpectedly and suddenly that the systems set up to warn of impending extreme weather failed to do so. The Bureau of Meteorology has promised to do all it can to ensure this doesn’t happen in the future.

Telcos face huge bills to repair Queensland flood damage
The flood waters that have blighted, and in many cases washed away, much of Queensland are finally retreating, though very slowly. Which means the cleanup can begin, again very slowly. For the big telecommunications companies this is going to be both time-consuming and very expensive.

Apple isn’t holding back on its plans for expansion, both in terms of products sold and retail outlets. Its latest Apple Store could be set to inhabit MacArthur Chambers in Brisbane, if the ambitious and impressive plans are given the green light.
There are many good arguments for and against the building of the NBN. There are also some lame ones, such as arguing that the money would be better spent encouraging us all to go outside more.
