There is a new phishing email making the rounds in Australia, this time purporting to be from the social networking site Facebook and containing a purported offer of friendship from a Facebook member.

Gillard against internet shopping tax
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has come out on the side of consumers in the battle to charge taxes on internet purchases, disagreeing with retailers that want the tax, and saying that there should be none.

Gov’t says WikiLeaks were likely illegal
In the considered opinion of many in the Federal Government, the actions recently taken by WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange were probably illegal and therefore both may be open to criminal action.

In an interesting turn of events, the Victorian Labor party says that if they take the upcoming election, they will legislate that consumers would have to opt out of the NBN rather than opt in.
Robot readied to help save NZ miners
There are 29 coal miners trapped in tunnels in New Zealand and rescuers are readying a very high-tech robot to help out with the rescue. The robot, which belongs to the military, could be deployed at any time.

A Vic Labor win would get every doc an iPad
John Grumby, the Premier of Victoria, said this week that every doctor in the state’s public hospital system would get an iPad free of charge if the Labor Party is returned to power in the upcoming election.
