Video game fitness programs have in a way taken the world by storm, allowing users to turn working out into a game. One popular video game fitness program by Nintendo: Wii Fit is expected to release a new version of the game this fall that turns working out not only into a game, but also into a competition.

A show based out of Queensland called Dojo Monkey has become the first Australian show to go completely cross platform. The animated show is based on a character named Dojo Money. Dojo Monkey got his start as the ninja monkey in a video game, but the creator immediately saw the potential for a show and the ability to make that work on multiple platforms.

The UK is the first to receive prototypes of a new way to game: with your mind. How does it work? Basically, Brainwave allows you to control a game via a headset that translates your brain’s electrical activity into a language your game console can understand.

Giving new meaning to the term “the Royal Wii“, it seems the Queen of England has developed a fondness for Prince William’s new Nintendo Wii system. It makes me happy that England’s monarchy is revealing an unexpected technological savvy. Every country needs leaders and role models who promote technology and science as well as the arts, and what better way to do so than to show technology can be both fun and useful?

A few claims are floating around the internet this week examining the theory that the frequency emitted by your Wii will attract cockroaches. That’s right - nasty, vile, cockroaches. And we don’t mean the cockroaches you call friends that come over to scam time on your Wii and eat you out of house and home. We mean the creepy, crawly, insect creatures that many scientists think will one day outlive every life form on Earth.

According to an article at Boomtown.net, Sony Computer Entertainment America communications exec Dave Karraker has said that he believes the Wii is little more than a novelty, implying that it would soon wear off as gamers yearned for a real games console - although Sony said something similar about the PSP’s battle with the Nintendo DS.

But there’s a catch! You can now buy games from a local online store and burn them to CD or DVD legally - but instead of being able to do it at home, the store has to do it for you, and send you the burnt disc in the mail.

The Nintendo Wii is launched in the US at last, with our own launch scheduled for December 7. All the next-generation of games consoles will be in Australia once the PS3 launches in March 2007, but the Wii will be hard to resist for purchase this Christmas!

While Nintendo promises the largest number of launch Wii’s will end up in the Americas, exact numbers aren’t available. Still, 400,000 will be on sale in Japan on December 2, with the US getting them two weeks earlier this Sunday on Nobember 19.
