Is Windows Vista virus proof?
Microsoft Windows Chief Jim Allchin let his seven year old son run Vista without any anti-virus software and claimed he suffered no infections. The news has spread across the globe, with some thinking Allchin is crazy. But I’ve run XP without anti-virus for months earlier this year, and I didn’t get infected. Why did I do it, and why no infections?

Mac attacks rare, but real
There’s no question that, today, Macs are much more secure than Windows based PCs. This is thanks to a more secure operating system, but it has also been because of a smaller user base that presented a smaller target for malware and virus writers. However the smaller user base argument is not necessarily the case today, thanks to the rise and rise of the iPod and the iMac.

Virus scare a lesson for Apple
While the small batch of Apple iPods infected with a Windows virus pose no threats to iMacs or the iPods themselves, the fact they were infected at all is a big worry. Now, the potential for virus and malware writers to start targeting Mac OS X in a bigger way cannot be ignored, and should be a massive wake-up call to Apple and its users: owning a Mac does not mean you’re invulnerable.

Online services maturing, PS3/Wii latest examples
While many parts of the world, including Australia, won’t be seeing a PS3 in stores until March 2007, the US and Japanese launch is still set for November and final preparations are well underway, while the Wii’s online service, which is launching worldwide in November and December with the Wii itself, is also being finalised.
